Breathe Upon Me

Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live  (Ezekiel 37:9, KJV)

Breathe upon me, Spirit of the Living God

You must have heard the favorite Christian song  “breathe upon me, ”popularized by our beloved Pastor Benny Hinn. What does it mean for God to breathe upon you? Let us quickly review the prophetic vision of Ezekiel above.

God instructed Ezekiel to speak to the wind and say “o breath..breathe upon these slain, that they may live”. This vision clearly speaks of the process by which the Spirit of God imparts life, just as in the creation story in Gen. 2:7.   Did you notice the two renderings of the basic word “breath” here? That is, “breath” and “breathe”. One is a noun( breath) and the second is a verb( breathe). One describes something(or someone) and the other describes a process.  Let me dwell on the verb today for the sake of time and space. What does it mean for God to breathe upon us?

Think of the human spirit. The body is alive because the spirit imparts life to it. The mind works because the spirit sustains it. The spirit is affecting the body and mind. This process by which the spirit exerts its influence over the physical is essentially what breathing is all about. For example in Ezekiel’s vision, the Spirit imparted life to the dead bodies and thus breathing upon them. The invisible power of the Spirit brought life into the bodies and the visible effect was that those dead bodies started living!

When God breathes upon you, He is unleashing His invisible power over your life to command changes to your being or outward life. He breathes to impart, vitalize, raise to a higher dimension, etc. When He breathes upon your finances, there is an increase. When He breathes your sick body, the disease leaves as good health springs up. When He breathes upon those whose spiritual lives are dead, they experience a fresh revelation of His presence and are set on fire. The examples continue. Come, o Breath of God, and breathe upon us!

MEDITATE

What is the difference between “breath” and “breathe” as discussed above? What happens when God breathes upon us? God has breathed upon man at two major times. The first was in Gen. 2:7. What do you think the second major occurrence is? ( Think about creation and the prophetic vision of Ezekiel above where dead people came back to life).

APPLY THE WORD

He has breathed upon us and continues to breathe on us to deal with the physical challenges we have. There is a tremendous amount of breathing in the place of prayer, feeding on the Word and fellowship with other believers.  I have just given you the keys to where the breath of God is blowing! Receive it in faith and put it to work!

Thank the Lord for the blessing of the Spirit that is breathing upon our lives.
