And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me (Genesis 21:6, KJV).
God hath made me laugh, said Sarah and He will do the same for you!
The story of Isaac’s birth to Sarah at 91 years old, far beyond her childbearing years, symbolizes a shift from skepticism to joy. This pivotal moment in Sarah’s life illustrates God’s power in turning the seemingly impossible into a jubilant celebration.
The Bible chronicles two instances of Sarah’s laughter. Initially, she laughed in disbelief upon hearing God’s promise to Abraham that she would bear a child at 90 (Genesis 18:12). The idea seemed so far-fetched that it provoked laughter.
Yet, a year later, God fulfilled His promise. The once-mocking laughter of disbelief transformed into a laughter of wonder and joy. The astonishment was palpable when Sarah, at 91, embraced her newborn.
This narrative of transformation through divine intervention resonates in the Psalmist’s words: “When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Our mouths were filled with laughter…” (Psalm 126:1–2, KJV). The Israelites, returning from Babylonian exile, experienced a reversal from sorrow to joy, akin to emerging from a dream.
Jesus echoes this theme of joyous transformation: “Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full” (John 16:24, KJV). His words invite us to embrace the joy of witnessing God’s miraculous works.

May He visit you and turn every captivity into a joyous celebration.
Meditate
Do you, like Sarah, initially doubt God’s promises? Do His words seem too extraordinary to be true?
Apply the Word
Prepare your heart for the joy God brings. Believe that the Lord wants your well-being and joy. Cling to His Word, maintaining hope against all odds until joyous laughter fills your life.
Pray
Ask the Spirit to strengthen you in faith to stand on God’s promises until the laughter of joy fills your mouth.
