He is Jehovah Shalom to you today

Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites. (Jdg. 6:24 KJV)

Gideon was a judge God used to deliver the children of Israel from bondage just after they settled in the promised land. When the angel of the LORD appeared to him, he was overwhelmed with fear, as he thought he was going to die. Then the LORD said to him “Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die” (Jdg. 6:23). Then Gideon built an altar and called it “Jehovah Shalom”, meaning “the LORD is peace”. In the midst of his fear and anxiety, the LORD spoke to him, and he was certainly overwhelmed with peace from above.

The Lord has not changed. He is still Jehovah Shalom today. In fact, the full fulfillment of all the Jehovah Titles of the Old Testament is in Christ. He is our peace in the midst of the troubling circumstances of our lives. He still tells us today “peace be unto thee, fear not!“. Jesus says to us “peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (Jn. 14:27). He spoke peace to Gideon. He is speaking peace to you today.

MEDITATE

Think on Jehovah Shalom. See the reality of God giving you peace in the midst of the troubling circumstances.

PRAY

Thank the Lord for His great peace available to us in the midst of the events of this life.

APPLY THE WORD TODAY!

God has spoken peace to you today. Act on that Word! Refuse every thought that tells you differently. Let the peace of God rule in your heart today. Remember, this is not the same as having no challenges. It is an inner calm and assurance, even in the midst of a challenge. Be intentional and act on God’s Word today. Maintain your peace, no matter what. When you “hold your peace“, the Lord “will fight for you!” (Exo.14:14).
