We Have the Spirit of Faith

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak  (2 Cor. 4:13 KJV)

Spirit of faith showing a man walking on lightning in the air!

The spirit of faith is not an angel called faith. It is a spiritual disposition.

The Apostle Paul quoted the words of  Ps. 116:10 where the Psalmist said he believed and therefore spoke. Paul calls this “the spirit of faith,” and notes that we also have the same spirit which believes and speaks.

The term “spirit” in this verse does not refer to a spirit being, such as an angel called “spirit of faith.” Neither does it refer to the Person of the Holy Spirit. The word spirit here refers to a spiritual disposition working as a state or frame of mind or simply attitude. There is an attitude of faith. That is, people who operate in faith have a certain tendency and positioning in life. 2 Cor. 4:13 above gives us one such spiritual tendencies. They talk when they believe! The spirit of faith is a speaking spirit. This is the power of confessing what you have believed in the Word either in solitude or the marketplace of life when faced with a challenge. Speak the Word.

Another attitude of faith, not mentioned in our verse above, is boldness. People of faith are people of courage and boldness. The life of faith is not a life for those who are chicken-hearted. It is impossible to live in faith with a timid and fearful attitude because faith will almost always cause you to act against what life throws at you.

The spirit of faith produces the life of faith.

MEDITATE

Why is the spirit of faith so important? In other words, what is the relationship between attitude, behaviors and the results we get in life?

APPLY THE WORD

If you want to live in faith, you must have the spirit of faith at work. Learn to verbalize what you have believed in the word. Also, know that there is no working faith without boldness and obedience. The spirit of faith is a speaking spirit, that is bold and obedient to the Word. Put this spirit to work!

PRAY

Ask the Lord to help you cultivate and strengthen this spirit of faith in your life.

Keep growing
