I Will Bless the Lord at All Times

I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth (Ps. 34:1 KJV)

The Psalmist emphatically states that he will bless the Lord at all times, and expounds further on what he meant by saying “His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” Blessing the Lord is praising Him, and this should be continual. This exhortation to 24/7 praise is reminiscent of Hebrews 13:15 which says,

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name (Heb. 13:15 KJV)

The Lord’s praise should be in our mouth continually. When we bless God, we are not giving Him a blessing for His wellbeing! The idea underlying the words “I will bless the Lord” is that of speaking well about the good deeds of the Lord, His kindness, and generosity to His people. Praise is a declaration of the good works of the Lord. The Psalmist says his mouth will continually be talking about what God has done. We magnify God, that is, tell how great He is, by re-iterating His beautiful works. This implies when we talk about something, we amplify it. This is part of the reason you should not be talking about what the devil is doing all day long in your life!
Develop the consciousness of talking about what God has done, whether the “small” or “big things.” Rehearse them to those around you and let His praise continually be in your mouth.

What is the difference in meaning between God blessing us and we in turn blessing God? Declare the words of Ps. 34:1 aloud to yourself.

Put this word to work in your life today. Make an intentional effort to talk about what God has done all day long. You may say His praise even if you are alone. Talk about what He has done for you and be grateful.
