For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands (2 Timothy 1:6 ESV)

Fan into flame the gift of God!

Paul told Timothy to fan into flame the gift of God, which was given to him through the laying on of his hands. The phrase “fan into flame” brings to mind the figure of a piece of coal or wood in a dying fire that is being rekindled to begin burning anew. Think of what happens when you use any tool to blow a current of air across burning wood or coals. As the wind passes across the fire, it glows with more magnificent flames.

Paul told Timothy to fan into flame his gift. There is no indication in the scriptures Timothy’s gift was dying or becoming cold. However, he was told to stir up the gift or fan it into flame. Your life and ministry can be compared to burning coal. For some of us, they are burning, but there is  room for more flames. For others, the flames are slowly dying down. Still for some, the flame is gone out completely and the coal is now turned black.

Think about your love for God or the passion and hunger for His presence and power you have. Also think about the specific spiritual gift you have  which God uses  to bless other Christians. If the fire is still burning, please fan it  to burn even more like Timothy. If the flames are almost going out or the fire is gone away completely, please ask the Lord to rekindle fresh flames immediately by the wind of His Spirit.

MEDITATE

What does it mean to fan into flame the gift of God?

APPLY THE WORD

The wind that causes the coals to glow is the Spirit. I have shared with you before the three key ways you can activate that wind to blow on you right now and rekindle every dead or dying fire : prayer, the word and impartation. Fan into flame the gift of God!

PRAY

Tell the Spirit you do not want to continue living or serving Him without fire or flames that are dying down. Ask Him for a fresh wind to rekindle new flames in your life.

Keep growing
