Whom Say Ye That I Am

He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? (Matt. 16:15 KJV)

Whom Say Ye That I Am? This is Jesus question to His disciples

Jesus asked His disciples what the people said about Him as they journeyed and came close to the city of Caesarea. The disciples were excited to give the opinions of the people about Jesus. They said: “Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets” (Matt. 16:14 KJV).

After He heard what the disciples said about what others were saying, He now turned His attention to His own and asked: “but Whom say ye that I am?”. He wanted to hear from His own, who had been working with Him for close to  3 years. Peter responded by the Spirit that “you are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” This was both a revelation and an utterance( “whom say ye…”).

This uttered revelation is the foundation of Christianity and a victorious life. It is a personal revelation of who the Savior is. Therein lies one of the most significant problems we are dealing with in Christianity today. Many know who He is from what they have heard others say. Their revelation about Christ is still from flesh and blood, meaning, the natural, their natural understanding, what others are saying, etc. They have not received this personalized revelation of the Christ which can only come from the Spirit of God. It cannot come from flesh and blood.

I pray the Lord helps us return to what Christianity is really all about—Christ. This is the truth that produces stable, victorious and mature believers.

MEDITATE

If Jesus were to ask you this question today, such as “what do you know about Me,” what would you say? He does not want you to tell Him what your Man of God says but “ Whom say ye that I am?”. 

APPLY THE WORD

The revelation of Christ produces the Christ-like life. Crave to know Him personally.

Ask the Spirit to unveil to you the mysteries of Christ as you take steps to know Him more each day.
