Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? (Matthew 18:32–33, KJV)

We need help forgiving others. Think of how God has forgiven you and draw from there!

Human relationships are complicated, whether friend-friend, husband-wife, parent-child, boss-employee, etc. One thing you can be sure of as we relate with each other is that people will step on your toes, just as you will step on other people’s toes. Forgiveness is the healing balm that mends the brokenness in our relationships. You should be ready to receive as well as give forgiveness.

Forgiving others who have done you wrong can sometimes feel like removing mount Everest before you. The closer the relationship, the greater the potential for the wounds to be deeper. As believers, God did not just suggest that we should forgive others. He has commanded us to forgive, and He knows we will need help to forgive. The parable of the unforgiving servant in Matthew 18 above teaches us an important lesson.

The Master forgave the servants debt and he expected that servant to enjoy the forgiveness he received and then give it as a gift to others. When we remember how God has forgiven us, we extend that forgiveness to others. Have you been forgiven? The Lord says draw from that well of forgiveness you have received to forgive your mother, father, brother, sister, friend, pastor, child or anyone who might have hurt you.

MEDITATE

Have you committed any sins lately? Did God forgive you? Has someone also committed a sin against you? Did you forgive them?

APPLY THE WORD

Bitterness or unforgiveness is a secret weapon that Satan is using to ravage millions of believers and many are not aware of it. They might be singing in the choir, preaching on the pulpit, evangelizing, or even worshipping but secretly harboring resentment against certain people. Do not let this be your story. Remember God’s love and forgiveness, and give it to others and enjoy your life in the peace and joy of the Lord!

PRAY

Ask the Lord for the grace to forgive always, for we truly need His help.
