Jeremiah, What Seest Thou?

Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree. (Jeremiah 1:11 KJV)

God asked Jeremiah what seest thou?

The power of vision profoundly influences our Christian journey. There’s a straightforward yet profound principle in the spiritual realm: what you see shapes what you receive or become. Hence, honing your spiritual vision is critical. Your daily walk in faith, your ministry, the outcomes of your endeavors, and the culmination of each year hinge on the clarity of your spiritual sight. Fortuitously, we can cultivate our spiritual vision (Hebrews 5:13).

Upon calling Jeremiah to prophethood, God nurtured Jeremiah’s spiritual sight. Jeremiah needed his spiritual eyes and ears well-tuned as a conduit of divine messages.

God’s inquiry, “What seest thou?” to Jeremiah, isn’t merely about what Jeremiah observed, as the vision was God’s revelation. Rather, it’s an exploration of Jeremiah’s spiritual perception. When Jeremiah responds, “I see a rod of an almond tree,” God affirms, “Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.” ([Jeremiah 1:12 KJV]). This acknowledgment by God wasn’t just validation of Jeremiah’s vision but also an assurance: when he receives such visions, they are indeed divine communications. Thus, Jeremiah’s initiation into his prophetic role included an intensive induction into understanding visions from God.

This principle applies not only to the prophetic but also to the eyes of understanding—revelation. Recognizing and affirming that our spiritual insights align with God’s revelations is paramount. God equips us to discern His voice amidst the din of life.

Reflect on your experiences—dreams, visions, revelations, thoughts. Remember, not every spiritual manifestation originates from God. As we mature in faith, we must refine our senses to discern God’s guidance and revelations.

Prayer

Pray for divine guidance in cultivating your spiritual perception, seeking clarity and discernment in recognizing God’s revelations through the prophetic eyes or the eyes of understanding.
