O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD. (Isaiah 2:5 KJV)
Let us walk in the light of the LORD, which is walking by His Word
Isaiah spoke to the Israelites and encouraged them to “come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD” . It was an invitation to move from darkness into the light of the LORD. His emphasis is on walking in the light. The word “walk” as I have written before is figurative for our manner of life. We all walk on some path, road or way, whether it is a path that leads to life or death. As long as we are alive and living, we are walking on some road.
In the 3rd verse of the same chapter, he said:
“And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem” (Isaiah 2:3 KJV).
He now uses a similar but distinct phrase “we will walk in His paths” and goes further to tell us “for out of Zion shall go forth the Law, and the Word of the LORD form Jerusalem”. That is His light. His Word is the light in your life. Every time we walk according to the Word, we are walking in the light and on the path of life. Every time we step away and start living contrary to His Word, we are walking in darkness and on a road that is leading to death.

What is the meaning of the word “walk” as used in this context? Why is the Word of God called “light”?

I want you to look down on the road you are walking on right now! Is it a path of light or darkness? Walk in the light of the LORD.

imAsk the Spirit to help you stay in the path of light as you in your mind, words and actions each day.
