How to Prophesy to Dry Bones in Your Life

Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD (Ezek. 37:4 KJV)

Have you ever felt stuck in a valley of dry bones—those seemingly hopeless situations that challenge your faith? Remember, no situation is too dry or dead for the breath of God. Let’s take a lesson from Ezekiel’s vision of the Valley of dry bones.

In the prophetic vision recorded in Ezekiel 37 (KJV), the Lord led Ezekiel to a valley filled with dry human bones. He gave him an unusual instruction: “Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD…I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live” (v4-5).

Here, “prophesy” signifies speaking God’s words to dead bones, a form of prophecy known as “forth-telling.” This differs from “foretelling,” another form of prophecy where God reveals the future. When God commanded Ezekiel to prophesy to the bones, He invited him to speak life, treating the bones as if they could hear and respond spiritually.

Only prophets like Ezekiel, filled with the Holy Spirit, could prophesy in the Old Testament. But, in the New Testament era, there was a seismic spiritual shift: God pours His Spirit on all believers, enabling us to speak life into our dry bones.

What are the dry bones in your life? They represent any seemingly hopeless situation you may face—health issues, financial stress, strained relationships, spiritual droughts, and more (Ezekiel 37:11). Jesus referred to these as mountains (Mark 11:23).

Consider this not as some “name it claim it” mantra—as some Christians have sadly labeled this— but a powerful tool God has given us. Use your voice to speak God’s truth over these situations. In your words, this prophetic power is God’s tool to breathe life and shape your destiny. 

Meditate

Ponder the difference between “forth-telling” and “foretelling.” 

Apply the Word

Harness the power of prophecy. Speak life and God’s truth to the dry bones and mountains in your life. As you do so, trust that the Spirit will respond and that God’s Breathe will breathe on them.

Pray

Ask the Father to deepen your understanding of the prophetic power in your words and guide you in using it effectively.
