The wicked earns deceptive wages, but one who sows righteousness gets a sure reward. (Proverbs 11:18 ESV)

He who sows righteousness will reap a good reward!

The principle of the seed sowing and harvesting is a critical principle you find throughout scripture. Sadly, many of us in Christianity today only know this principle when it comes to money because more than 99% of sermons you hear on seeds and sowing will have something to do with money. Yes, this principle is used in scripture to describe the blessing of giving and receiving. However, there is more.

In the verse above, the scripture says the one who sows righteousness gets a sure reward.  It contrasts it with the reward the wicked or sinful person gets by doing wickedness. The sowing or planting process here refers to doing works of either righteousness or wickedness. It means your actions are seeds, just like your words. Each time we act or speak, we are sowing seeds. That seed will grow up and bear fruit which we will have to eat someday.

The Lord tells us in this verse that righteousness is a seed that can be sown. That is a broader term that includes all the righteous or good works we can do including giving, living an upright and pure life, helping people around, loving people, working to build God’s kingdom, etc. As you sow righteousness in any of its myriad forms, there is a sure reward from the Lord.

MEDITATE

What is the meaning of sowing righteousness as described above? Try to explain it in your own words.

APPLY THE WORD

We begin sowing seeds the moment we wake up in the morning. Scripture says if we sow to our flesh, we will reap corruption and if we sow to the Spirit, we will reap life. Sow righteousness every day, and bear abundant fruit that will abound to the glory of God.

PRAY

Ask the Father to help you sow the right seeds in your life daily.

Keep growing
