Yield To God Everyday

AuthorPatrick Oben

Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God . . . (Rom. 6:13 KJV)

Yielding to God in everyday life. A man praying, surrendered to God.

Surrendering to God is crucial for your spiritual wellbeing and enjoying in this life.

If we can yield to God fully in our lives, then we will enjoy life to the full until it overflows. When you were born again, your spirit was immersed in the nature and life of God in Christ. If this is true, why then do I not experience an outward life that is even close to the life Jesus lived on the earth? Why do believers, therefore, differ outwardly in our daily experiences?

The answer is found in the command of these three words: “yield to God.” God lives inside of us as believers. The degree to which we yield ourselves to Him determines how much of Him will be revealed and experienced outwardly.

What does it mean to “yield to God”? The Amplified translation is very informative and says, “Do not go on offering members of your body to sin as instruments of wickedness. But offer yourselves to God [in a decisive act] . . . ”

To yield is simply to present something to someone to use. We all know how to yield, except that it was yielding to sin. Before we met the Lord, we  yielded our bodies to sin: our mouths for lying, our hands for stealing, our bodies for sexual impurity, etc.

Whenever we allow our bodies to be used for something, we are yielding. God wants you to yield, or present, your bodies to Him. It is a decision to relinquish control of your life to Him as Lord. You will be so grateful you did, because it is in that place that you will enjoy life to the full.

MEDITATE

Why cannot God just do what He wants with you, whether you yield or not? See Gen. 2:16.

APPLY THE WORD

Remember to yield to God today. Do not use your mouth, hands, eyes, or any member of your body to yield to sin, but rather to God.

PRAY

Ask the Spirit to help you yield yourself more to Him.
